String-wound filter cartridges
Putsch® offers a very large selection of string-wound filter cartridges in many sizes, designs, materials and winding patterns.
The depth filter cartridges type “HP” from Putsch® are special depth filters on polypropylene basis which are known for their particularly long useful life. The manufacturing process for depth filter cartridges type “HP” was patented in the US as early as 1988. Since then, this type of cartridge filter has become successfully established in the market. The thermally bonded microfibers have made the depth filter cartridge type “HP” popular as a unique quality product, as it cannot shed any fibers into the filtrate and also has an extremely long useful life.
These depth filters are very often used when the liquid to be filtered is already visually clean, but a high nominal separation capacity for very small invisible particles is required, e.g. as police filter cartridges at outlets for high purity water systems, as safety filters for water tanks or as end filters on dosing units.
The depth filter cartridges type “HP” are produced with the melt blown process. Melted polypropylene is finely distributed by special nozzles in a penstock and sprayed onto a rotating shaft. Upon contact of the polypropylene fibers, the contact areas melt into one unit. The fibers are blown onto the shaft disordered, creating an open, fibrous filter matrix which lets the liquid flow through easily while retaining the very fine particles.
The technological challenge here is to manufacture the depth filter cartridges type “HP” with a high filtration capacity while at the same time – despite a great number of particles – achieving a long useful life.
The corresponding production conditions are set up to ensure that the filter matrix has a very open fiber structure on the intake side of the filter cartridge. Other common depth filter cartridges are far less porous and significantly harder. The fibers in the depth filter cartridges type “HP”, on the other hand, are not melted excessively but rather have a very fine channel/labyrinth structure. In the liquid flow during filtration, the fibers are compressed and cannot escape from the filter matrix. To ensure this, the fibers on the inner surface of the filtrate side were calendered, additionally excluding the risk of fiber shedding.
The labyrinth structure is pressure resistant and the filter action is maintained at a very high level. At the same time, the stability is so high that no support core is required.
Due to the particularly open fiber matrix, the liquid to be filtered flows through the depth filter cartridges type “HP” unhindered.
The many users confirm the long useful life and the fiber-free, highly pure filtrate from Putsch® filters.
The depth filter cartridges type “HP” are fully suitable for contact with food. All components comply with the regulations from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
RoHS requirements are met for use in the electronics and coating industry.
No substances that could interfere with adhesion, e.g. silicones, are permitted in paint coating systems, among others. All requirements in this regard are also met.
Depending on the cartridge housing, different adapters are available for the depth filter cartridges type “HP”. The adapters consist of polypropylene caps which are attached with a polypropylene melt.
Different seals made of EPDM, Viton®, silicone® , NBR, etc. are available for the polypropylene caps.

Cartridge housings type “4” are robust stainless steel filter housings which are modular and accordingly versatile.
Cartridge housings type “6” have been used widely in all industries for over 40 years and are particularly popular due to their solid, robust quality.
Housings type “SM”, “SL” and “PN” are polypropylene cartridge housings for use as water filters, each with individual filter cartridges. Their low weight makes them ideal for mobile use.
The customized cartridge housings type “D-PP” are made of polypropylene and are used wherever comparable metal housings are unsuitable, e.g. in an environment containing salt.
