Cartridge housings type “4”
Cartridge housings type “4” are robust stainless steel filter housings which are modular and accordingly versatile.
Type series “SM”, “SL” and “PN” are polypropylene cartridge housings for use as water filters, each with individual filter cartridges. The weight advantage over metal housings make them particularly suitable for mobile use.
Depending on customer requirements and intended use, different polypropylenes are used in production. The cartridge housings are available in different lengths, with different thread sizes and with other additional features.
A comprehensive range of accessories is also available.
For over 50 years, Putsch® has been manufacturing injection-molded cartridge housings and supplied hundreds of thousands of units. Feedback from international customers in all industries proves the advantage in quality and continuity compared to the numerous copies on the market.
The cartridge housings consist of two polypropylene parts: a head and a sump. The head consists of an internal thread for the piping, the filter cartridge seating, an O-ring for sealing and a sturdy external thread for the sump.
The sump serves as the housing cover and is screwed into the head finger-tight to prevent leaking of water.
The cartridge housing is made from a special polypropylene formula, allowing it to expand slightly during operation at the correct internal pressure, producing a sealing effect. At this water pressure, unintentional opening of the cartridge housing during operation is excluded.
The cartridge housing is available in different versions for different applications:
The cartridge housing type “SM” is the most widely used classic model among polypropylene housings. The 3/4″ internal thread makes it suitable for a higher water flow rate. The convenient lengthwise braces allow easy finger-tight opening and closing of the housing.
The head is optionally available with a vent button to vent any trapped air after filling with water – at the press of a button.
Note: When the vent button is pressed, the air escapes. Press and hold the button for several seconds until a few drops of water emerge. The button has a special wall around the edge to collect the water – clever function and innovation in every detail!
A lever allows for the intake and the outlet to be shut off when replacing the filter cartridge for type “SM” with suffix “VIH” (Valve-In-Head). No longer needed are the shut-off mechanisms normally used in the lines when replacing filter cartridges – saving both space and money!
Note: The shut-off mechanisms are intended to be used for replacing the filter cartridges, not as a permanent shut-off of the pipe!
If the water is biologically contaminated, light supports bacterial growth. To have as little light as possible enter the cartridge housing type “SM”, the head is black and the sump is blue. The filter cartridges are not visible in the blue sump from the outside. Otherwise, these cartridge housings “SM” with the suffix “T” can be used with a blue head and a transparent sump. The filter cartridges and the water are easily visible from outside.
The black and blue heads type “SM” have the same dimensions and therefore also fit on the blue and transparent sumps. The installed cartridge housings can be retrofitted later on by changing the sumps.
If the water is to be filtered between 52 °C and 72 °C, Nylon® is available for the cartridge housing instead of polypropylene. Invisible glass fibers in the Nylon® improve the thermal stability during the manufacturing process. The cartridge housing is red and therefore easily distinguishable from the other types.
The cartridge housings type “SL” are the right choice if 3/8″ or 1/2″ internal threads are preferred. The head is black and the sump is blue – as on type “SM”. This type also offers the option with a vent button. A transparent sump with a blue head is also offered, as for the type “SM”.
This type also offers another special feature: Customers can use 9 3/4″ and 20″ filter cartridges depending on the length of the sump, but also 4″ and 7/8″ cartridges.
Regulations are in place for high purity water for the semiconductor industry or for medical applications, defining which colorants and fillers can be used polypropylenes. Filter cartridges type “PN” meet these requirements. In addition, the special polypropylene compound makes the surface particularly smooth and supports hygiene requirements.
The head is equipped with blind plugs for venting. In addition to the usual seatings for filter cartridges with adapter P0 (DOE) or AM, a head with a seating for filter cartridges with adapter P8 or M0 is also available. These adapters are often used for pleated filter cartridges in the semiconductor industry.
The large, smooth thread on head and sump allows fast and safe handling when installing or replacing the filter cartridges. The threads are permanently attached to the head and sump without adhesives and can resist the water pressure without problems. Matching external threads are attached for the corresponding types. This makes heads and sumps interchangeable. The range is very flexible and the modular design limits it to certain basic types of heads and sumps.
The cartridge housings are mounted in the pipe with the sump facing downwards. Special feet are not required. During filling with water, this causes the air bubble to rise into the head. Depending on the filter cartridges, the air escapes with the water. Some cartridge housings are available with a red drain button for venting, e.g. for venting directly after filling.
Two fixing brackets are available for secure attachment – for mounting on the head or on the pipe.
Depending on the plug housing, internal threads from ½ “to ¾” are available as inlet and outlet. There are no rigid metal inlets of non-ferrous metals used, so that the stable candle housing as well as corrosive liquids such. B. chlorinated or saline water can be used without restrictions.
Both sides open filter cartridges with the adapters P0 (DOE) are suitable for this plug housing. Likewise, the adapter “AM” fits into this plug housing. Here, the filter cartridge is closed on one side and on the other side sits an O-ring in a sealing groove firmly and safely. The open end of the filter cartridge is guided over the pin in the head. In the swamp there is also a pin which engages in the recess of the closed side of the filter candle and thus allows a secure fit of the filter candle.
The filter housings comply with the regulations of the FDA and the conformity is certified to the customer on request by put ®. The operation and maintenance is so simple and self-explanatory that no separate documentation is necessary.
Putsch® offers the appropriate accessories for comfortable operation of the filter cartridge housings.
Depending on the size of the cartridge housing, Putsch® offers housing wrenches in two sizes. The cartridge housings are closed finger-tight until they are sealed.
The housing wrench is not absolutely necessary, but it facilitates opening and closing
The cartridge housings have four holes in the head for the fixing brackets for wall mounting. Two holes per side are required for the fixing brackets. This allows the installer to attach the cartridge housing in two positions, making installation independent of the flow direction of the water.
The U-shaped fixing bracket is used on the intake and outlet with the same pipe diameter on the line. The U-shaped fixing bracket is particularly used for housings with “VIH” cutoffs.
Connections for a pressure gage on the head or for draining on the sump are not provided!
