Polypropylene Cartridge housings type “BB”

Cartridge housings type “BB” are filter housings made of polypropylene which are especially designed for use with special filter cartridges, which have a particularly long service life due to the larger cross section.

They also have large 1″ or 1 1/2″ internal threads for connection to the corresponding water lines.

Cartridge housings type “BB” are manufactured with injection molding, are particularly light compared to metal housings and still notably pressure-resistant (over 6 bar internal water pressure).

Description

General information

For over 50 years, Putsch® has been manufacturing injection-molded cartridge housings and supplied hundreds of thousands of units. Feedback from international customers in all industries confirms the technical and quality advantage compared to the numerous copies on the market.

The cartridge housings consist of two polypropylene parts: a head and a sump.
To prevent bacterial growth in water with biological contamination, these cartridge housings allow no light to enter.

Metal-free internal threads for the piping are located in the head for intake and outlet. The head is equipped with a filter cartridge seating, an O-ring for sealing and a sturdy external thread for the sump. The sump serves as the housing cover and is screwed into the head finger-tight to prevent leaking of water.

The cartridge housing is made from a special formula, allowing it to expand slightly during operation at the correct internal pressure, producing a sealing effect. At this water pressure, unintentional opening of the cartridge housing during operation is excluded.

The polypropylene cartridge housings type “BB” are available in two lengths. The supplied heads (black) fit on both sumps. The installed cartridge housings can therefore be retrofitted for 10″ or 20″ filter cartridges later on by changing the sumps.

Housing closure

The large, smooth thread on head and sump allows fast and safe handling when installing or replacing the filter cartridges. The threads are permanently attached without adhesives and can resist the water pressure without problems.

Feet/installation/mounting

The cartridge housings are mounted in the pipe with the sump facing downwards. Special feet are not required. During filling with water, this causes the air bubble to rise into the head. Depending on the filter cartridges, the air escapes with the water. Cartridge housings type “BB” can also be supplied with a drain button for venting.

Note: When the vent button is pressed, the air escaped. Press the button for several seconds until a few drops of water emerge, which are contained in a special wall in the edge – functions and ideas in each detail!

For secure fixing, Putsch® offers a fixing bracket made of galvanized steel for attaching to the head.

Connections

Depending on the cartridge housing, internal threads from 1″ to 1 1/2″ intake and outlet are available. No rigid inlets made of non-ferrous metal are used, so that the sturdy cartridge housings can also be used for corrosive liquids, e.g. chlorinated or salt water, without restrictions.

Connections for pressure gages in the head or drain cocks in the sump are not available.

Adapters for filter cartridges

Filter cartridges open at both ends with the adapters P0 (DOE) and an external diameter of up to 114 mm are suitable for these cartridge housings. This exceptionally large diameter allows a much greater volume of dirt to be filtered, which significantly extends the useful life compared to the usual filter cartridges (with only 65 mm outer diameter).

Depending on the application, different filter cartridges are available for these filter housings: string-wound filter cartridges, melt blown filter cartridges, activated carbon filter cartridges and pleated filter cartridges.

Documents

The filter housings correspond to FDA regulations; Putsch® can certify compliance for the customer on request. Operation and maintenance are simple and self-explanatory.

Accessories

Accessories

Putsch® offers the appropriate accessories for comfortable operation of the filter cartridge housings.

Housing wrench

The cartridge housings are closed finger-tight until they are sealed.
The housing wrench is not absolutely necessary, but it facilitates opening and closing.

Fixing brackets for wall mounting

The cartridge housings have four holes in the head for the fixing brackets for wall mounting. This allows the installer to attach the cartridge housing in two positions, making installation independent of the flow direction of the water.

Note:

Connections for a pressure gage on the head or for draining on the sump are not provided!
