Cartridge housings type “Sanitary”

The cartridge filter housings type “Sanitary” are ideal for filtration with high hygiene requirements, e.g. as prevalent in the food industry.

These cartridge housings meet the special requirements for hygiene and cleaning through particularly finely ground, smooth metal surfaces, orbital, virtually invisible welding seams and a design without dead space.

The cartridge housings can be fully disassembled with little effort and are therefore easy to clean.

Typical cleaning processes such as “Clean in Process” (CIP) or hot water sanitizing can be carried out with these cartridge housings without limitations.

The cartridge housings are pressure vessels and are designed, manufactured, tested and documented in line with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 214/68/EU, art. 4 par. (3), good engineering practice for group 2 liquids). Corresponding documents, such as the Declaration of Conformity, are available to the operating company and prove the high European safety standard.

The modular system offers filter housings of different sizes with up to 18 filter cartridges, which can hold filter cartridges from 10″ to 40″ and have different pipe diameters depending on the flow rate. Larger filter housings type “Sanitary” and special customer requests are possible on request.

Description

General information

The cartridge housings type “Sanitary” consist of different size base plates with the corresponding adapter seatings for the filter cartridges and holes for the intake and outlet pipes.

The corresponding housing screws for 10″ to 40″ long filter cartridges fit on the base plates with the same diameters. The pipe elbows on the base plate can be detached. The fittings of the pipe elbows allow intake and outlet to be positioned in different directions, which facilitates installation of the pipes.

All surfaces which come into contact with the product are very smooth and ground to a roughness of Ra < 0.8 µm. All depressions and welded areas were polished mechanically. This makes all surfaces easy to clean and keep clean.

Housing closure

Depending on the base plate, two closure versions are available, both of which meet the high hygiene requirements. The smaller versions for 1 to 8 filter cartridges are equipped with a locking clamp with hand toggle as a standard, for fast and safe operation. When the hand toggle is actuated, the locking clamp retracts and presses the O-ring into the sealing position. When the container is under pressure, the locking clamp is so tight that it cannot be released, preventing incorrect operation.

For filter housings type “Sanitary” from 12 cartridges upwards, sealing is achieved with Rathmann fittings. The larger the base plate, the more clamps are required for absorbing the forces generated by the internal overpressure. The clamps press the flanges together, whereby the flanges are equipped with a seal on the inner groove. There are no threaded fittings which protrude into the product area, allowing easy and thorough cleaning.

Feet/installation/mounting

For installing the cartridge housings, feet can be screwed into the underside of the base plate, depending on the holes. The height of the feet can be adjusted with the threads on the floor contact area to compensate for any unevenness in the floor. Many operating companies use these threads to set their cartridge housings at an angle to facilitate residual drainage and flushing.

Certain types of feet feature a floor contact plate with a hole for additionally fixing the cartridge housings to the floor.

Connections

Depending on the floor plate, the intakes and outlets are available in different nominal diameters from DN25 to DN65. Dairy pipe fittings (for dairy pipes as per DIN 11851) or weld end clamps TC (for pipes as per ISO 2037) are available for all pipe diameters. Flanges can be supplied instead of these connections on request.

Optionally, the pipe elbows with weld end clamps can be used, e.g. for connecting drain cocks or taps.

All housing covers are fitted with a vent connection with weld end clamp TC 1.5″ or, on request, a dairy pipe fitting with dairy pipe as per DIN 11851 in DN25.

Adapters for filter cartridges

Depending on their size, the base plates feature the corresponding number of seatings for the P7 adapters on the filter cartridge. The P7 adapters (bayonet connection) engage in the lateral depressions of the holes within the base plate.

Alternatively, the holes can be provided for P8 adapters.
No welding is carried out in the sealing area to exclude any unevenness or thermal distortion. This ensures ideal sealing and protects the filtered liquid against contamination. The depressions are designed without dead space so no liquid can remain in the sealing area of the adapters. This makes contamination through biofouling impossible.

Documents

Each cartridge housing is supplied with a pressure vessel certificate and a declaration of conformity (as per pressure equipment regulations). On customer request, conformity with ATEX regulations can be certified. Each cartridge housing is individually marked for clear identification.

Each cartridge housing is provided with operating instructions which contains installation information, a spare parts list and information on maintenance and care.
